About Rafayel

Comments: Positive Negative Management reply

About our restaurant and bar, Banyan on the Thames and Crystal Bar, go to:

“The Service, space and decor was to quote our 15 yr old "awesome"”

“Pleasant, relaxing stay”

I stayed with my partner in this lovely hotel for one night during the week. I found very resonable offer on laterooms.com for £119 per night in this 5* hotel. Room was spacious, very clean in modern contemporary style. Location is not that great as take about 10 min from vauxall by taxi but views are amazing (make sure you book room facing river side). Absolutely would reccomend this hotel.,

“Staff very helpful and always smiling. Room amazing facilities for the price and free, regular hotel shuttle to local train station”

“Very good but rough around the edges”

“Stayed in Rafayel for the second time now. I travel to London a couple of times per year for various matters, professional and personal. The hotel itself is brilliant. Nice rooms, gym, restaurant, technology of decent quality and views. We prefer the suite for studying and such but other rooms are of good size too. I've stayed in much more expensive hotels in london (langham,st martin) and have to say that the rooms are a bargain. I particularly like the bathrooms. Great beds, great claining staff…”

“Excellent value luxury hotel, great restaurant, wonderful room with an amazing view of the river.”

“There was a really good hairdryer provided by the hotel, but the plug sockets were nowhere near the mirror.”

“Excellent Modern Hotel with Superb Restaurant and Friendly Staff”

Stayed in this hotel for the second time this year and although last time it was going through a soft opening on this occasion all aspects have dramatically improved. Staff are very friendly and helpful as is the Manager Iqbal who looks after the guests needs in an obliging manner. I stayed in an Amazon room and it was very large with Thames partial view and excellent standard of amenities-Large Flatscreen TV , plenty wardrobe space and lovely bathroom. Into the bargain the hotel also provide a fast free wi-fi internet service. Restaurant serves up excellent food although we noticed that yet again the menu was limited and was the same as our last visit. Location is very good with Clapham junction overground station just a 10 min walk although the Hotel provides a free shuttle service to both Clapham Junction and Clapham Common underground stations. The 170 bus also stops directly outside of the hotel and for a couple of pound you will be in London Victoria in 15 mins. All in all an excellent hotel in a quiet Riverside location.

“The room was very comfortable and the facilities were excellent”

“Amazing!”

This hotel is one of the few that I have stayed in that lives up to its own hype…Having read some reviews moaning about the distance to the underground I was not sure how it would suit me with my plans of spending 2 days sightseeing in central London. I needn't have worried. For those travellers obsessed with catching the underground from Clapham Common you are indeed right in that it is a long walk, but the FREE shuttle service from the hotel is every 30 mins and will get you there very easily. Alternatively you can just walk the 10 mins to the Clapham Junction overground station (or the 3 minute free shuttle ride from the hotel), which will get you to London Victoria or Waterloo within 10 mins. Where is the problem? Service wise the staff were always happy and smiling and nothing seemed too much trouble. The hotel public areas were immaculate with an amazing thames view restaurant although the menu was limited in choice, the food was amazing! The bedroom was clean and comfortable with thick, soft carpets and almost sound proof floor to ceiling windows for a nice view, (and we only went for a mid-price room) with the most comfortable bed I have slept in for ages. The bathroom was huge! A 16 inch TV in the wall at the end of the bath was a nice touch but unfortunately was not hooked up yet (during their soft opening schedule, whatever that means!). All in all this Hotel is amazing at the price and personally will be choosing this hotel for all my future London trips.

“friendly and helpful staff, nothing too much trouble, food in restaurant was excellent and the 50% discount made it excellent value. Owner introduced himself and asked guests indivdually what they thought and if there was anything that could be improved - the personal touch!!”

“Great hotel with wonderful staff”

Having stayed twice at this hotel, 2 nights at a time, I strongly recommend it. The rooms and bathrooms are modern, spacious and very well appointed. The staff are ALL amazing and really helpful. Excellent restaurant too with view over Thames. Free taxi to Clapham junction or pay for a taxi or use your car, which is valet parked at £15 per day. Spotlessly clean, new, and beautifully decorated.

“Wow!!!”

After reading the reviews we decided to spend our wedding anniversary here. Booking a junior suite for us and two smaller rooms for our teenagers. From booking in to leaving I can say that the staff went that extra mile. Our room with card and cakes was simply stunning. Our only disappointment was not eating in the restaurant. We had drinks and the food looked amazing. The boys want to move in. You are away from central London but the free transfers and bus service means you don't miss out. The value is unbelievable. We are already looking at another visit in the new year. Already recommend to our friends.

“The rooms are a fantastic size with great tech and luxurious beds! The location isn't fantastic but there is a free shuttle service which was very useful.

“Execllent accomodation - room design and comfort. Great staff responsiveness. Super value for money.”

“This Hotel is beautifully and thoughtfully decorated, the room was spacious and luxurous and bathroom particularly lovely. The spa and gym were very good.”

“So glad I found this hotel.... A1+++++”

…The Hotel was fantastic, the service 100% and the location was great for everything including central London, Chelsea and getting in and out of London when arriving and departing. The whole experience was perfect and our extended party in the bar later on Saturday night was also well catered for. I will be looking to stay at the hotel again when on business in London with other associates of mine and also again purely for pleasure.

“This hotel is Superb!!!”

Drove up to the front reception and was met by 2 valet/porters, very pleasant and very helpful, in fact the staff in this hotel always went that extra yard and were pleasant, accommodating and a pleasure to spend time around, and that means every single member of staff was fantastic!! The hotel was very clean we stayed in a thames room which i highly recomend the views of the thames are stunning from the room, very clean the scent in the bedroom and bathroom was beautiful and even down to the scented loo roll!!. Bathroom was gorgeous and very luxurious. Bed comfiest we ever have experienced, Hotel very very quiet, the food and service was just great, and the service again second to none. We met the owner of the building who was a lovely man and was very nice company to. All in all thumbs up to the Rafayeln and all who work there, we hope you enjoy our tip, Mrs Maguire, thanks so much for a wonderful stay we will be back!!

“Excellent quality room for a great price”

Stayed here for the one night whilst passing through London. Booked ahead for a good deal - turned up - checked in - good clean, large modern hotel room with a really powerful shower and a comfy bed. Checked out early and used the free minibus to the train. The hotel phoned me two hours later to say they had found my glasses in the room and that they were going to post them to my home if that's what I wanted. True to their word my glasses were returned next day. Great service many thanks to the team at Rafayel.

“Amazing Hotel”

Fantastic hotel, very reasonably priced, I will continue to use the Rafayel every time I travel to London.

“An out of the way surprise”

Amazing Value no problem getting to Clappham Junction, they run a shuttle service, but getting back is not so easy. Don't think Clappham Common is close its not £9 by cab

“fantastic”

the room was great but the view wasnt so good the staff were excelent --- drinks a bit expensive but the 1/2 food more than made up for that --- gym good --- steam room and sauna great ------ all in all a fantastic hotel

“fabulous recommend to all.5 ***** all round”

we would stay at the rafayel again. we cannot speak highly enough of the staff who carried our luggage from and to the car on arrival and departure. they thanked us for our custom and nothing was to much trouble. the room was spotless and the bed very comfortable, well stocked bar and plenty of complementary tea/coffee erc., we walked around the back of the hotel and had a stroll along the thames. we would recommend this hotel to all our family and friends. definitely 5*****

We stayed on a Friday night during November and we weren’t disappointed… Beyond the lobby the hotel was very clean and well signed, and the room was beautiful. It looked like the picture which is all you can ask really, the room was stylish, the bed was very comfortable, the bathroom spacious and the view beautiful.

The room was very comfortable and the facilities were excellent

The Staff were extremely welcoming and attentive, the room was of an extremely high specification and excellent value for money. Unfortunately our schedule was so tight that we did not experience any food during our stay .

"Bedroom standards were excellent"

My partner and I stayed at the Rafayel in early August 2010. I booked two nights and contacted the hotel and asked if they could do anything to make it special as it was my mans 40th birthday. I was stunned when they upgraded our room, provided beautiful cup cakes wine and a card plus a discount in the restaurant. So impressed was I that I booked a further night.
The staff are exceptional, the rooms are big, luxuriously fitted with thick carpets, multi jet shower and one of the most comfortable beds I've ever stayed in. The entertainment system was state of the art and the view was whilst not brilliant better than many I have seen in London.
The only thing which lets the hotel down a little is the location in that you aren't close to an underground but there is a free shuttle service which takes you to the overground station so it's no hardship. The restaurant was a bit slow and the vegetarian options were very limited. My partner had a beautiful steak and still talks about it now.
I would definitely go back to this hotel and have recommended it to my friends. I would love to stay there again!!

"friendly and helpful staff, nothing too much trouble, food in restaurant was excellent and the 50% discount made it excellent value. Owner introduced himself and asked guests indivdually what they thought and if there was anything that could be improved - the personal touch!!"

"We were very impressed with this hotel, we had no problems at all and really enjoyed our stay. The drop off and pick up service was very good and we didnt have any long waits, and it is in walking distance to clapham junction. The rooms were decorated to a very high standard with gorgeous bathrooms. Compared to the price of other hotels close to London this was very good value and we would definitely stay again."

"My partner and I have just recently had a trip to London and stayed in this hotel. The service was great and staff were very polite and would help you with any problems that you had. If you neeed anything you could phone reception and they would do their best to cater for you. The room was lovely and very spacious.
Location was great with the complementary service to near tube and train stations which meant it would take no time at all to get into the city centre, this also gave us a chance to meet other guests staying in the hotel.
We also visited the restaurant a couple of times with the food being excellent and the service was very quick. we were delighted with our stay and hope to return soon."

"The rooms are a fantastic size with great tech and luxurious beds!"
The location isn't fantastic but there is a free shuttle service which was very useful

"By far the BEST hotel experience ever. Simply Superb - 11/10"

"Rafayel on the Left Bank is a Gem for Business Travelers… ther pluses about the hotel - price, luxury, "green environment", service, and restaurant. The hotel provided a great value for the price compared with other hotels I looked at in London, no question here. I stayed in the Yangtze room which had a view overlooking the Thames, a nice touch. A comfy bed and large bathroom were highlights for me and a wonderful shower to relax in at the end of a long day. I especially appreciated the cleanliness of my room too. I could look forward to returning to my hotel each evening. Additionally, the hotel is one of a few "Green" approved luxury hotels…."

"Execllent accomodation -
room design and comfort. Great staff responsiveness. Super value for money."

“The best htoel accomodation I have ever seen
I have worked in some of the most luxury apartmens in Sandbanks, Until recently I didnt think you could better the quality and style ... until we stayed at this hotel…”

"…Bedrooms -
large, very modern rooms with some lovely extras - TV in bathroom (although this didn't work during our stay), free wifi, the most comfortable bed I have slept in, mini bar, room safe etc My requests made at the time of booking were all actioned which was also pleasing…"

"The Staff were extremely welcoming and attentive, the room was of an extremely high specification and excellent value for money. Unfortunately our schedule was so tight that we did not experience any food during our stay."

"This Hotel is beautifully and thoughtfully decorated, the room was spacious and luxurous and bathroom particularly lovely. The spa and gym were very good."

"An extrodinary experience with an amazing view… I recently stayed at the Rafayel Hotel and booked there 1 night Spa Break. The hotel provided a very quick and friendly pick up/drop off services to and from Clapham Junction as we checked in a gentleman that worked at the hotel kindly took us up to our room and showed us around. We stayed in The Thames-View room it was very spacious and exactly how it was described in details on the website with an amazing view of the river Thames. The hotel's restaurant The Banyan on Thames provided a variety of mouth watering dishes with an excellent service and a view of the river Thames. Highly recommended to couples on special occasions or even a birthday. All staff members at the hotel were very friendly and approachable the therapists at the Well-Being Spa were also good in there work. I will definitely be returning to this hotel…"

"Welcoming and attentive staff. Shuttle service from station. Complimentary use of steam room, gym and sauna. Great food at fantastic 50% reduction for guests. Will definitely recommend"

"Excellent five star hotel. Location was good with beatufil sorrundings next to Thames and Battersea park - as well as the bus (170) stopped just outside every 8 minutes and the busride to Victoria is just 10 minutes. Very good restaruant with half price for hotel guests makes it a very good alternative for dining. We really enjoyed our stay."

"Friendly service, big bedrooms and fancy bathroom! …The rooms - We had two rooms (Amazon rooms), one made up as a triple. Both rooms were large, nicely decorated and furnished. The bathrooms were very impressive, in one room in particular (221) as this had a large shower and separate bath. The TV in the bathroom didn't work (which I had read in a review before going), it didn't bother us but does seem to have not been working for a while and really is something that should get sorted out. Despite having interconnecting doors in both rooms we were not disturbed by noise at all, with all of us commenting on how quiet it had been. However we were woken on Sunday morning by a helicopter landing at the heliport next door."

The restaurant -
We ate in the Banyan on the Saturday night, all of us were impressed with this place. Service was a little slow to start, but they were fully booked. However the food arrived quickly and was very good (we can recommend the Prawns in the Garlic Sauce to start and the Mongolian Lamb and Chilli Beef for mains, all were delicious) and with the food being discounted by 50%, even including the drinks our bill was only £20 each, fantastic value.

The Spa -
we didn't have any treatments but did use the sauna and jacuzzi, which were very nice and we had the place to ourselves at 9am on the Sunday. The steam room was not working however but we did see someone trying to fix it. Nice touches included each locker containing a big fluffy towel, bathrobe and slippers.

"Location -
if you want to be right in the middle of everything in London then this probably isn't the best choice for you. We did find it very easy to get around, but it did take time. The 170 bus stops right outside the hotel, goes to Victoria station every 10 minutes and normally takes around 20 mins (though there were major delays for us on the Saturday night, coming back to the hotel it took us over an hour). There is a shuttle service to take you to Clapham Common which takes about 20 mins, and from there for example it takes about 45 mins to get to Paddington. As others have pointed out if this hotel was more central then it would be considerably more expensive. I would happily return to this hotel and compromise the location for the fantastic rooms and service."

"the staff, the awesome room, the great food and service"

"Fantastic value for money, well exceeded expectations. stunning rooms, bar, restaurant and spa area. very freindly staff - all wanted to make our stay perfect. it is located a 15 minute walk from clapham junction but there is a free drop off and pick up service to the station."

"Stayed at the Hotel Rafayel last night with my boyfriend. Hotel was great, staff are very helpful and the rooms were very nice and high tech! My boyfriend loved the features on the tv, you can set the room temp, turn lights on and off and listen to a range of music all while you lay on the bed! Definitely will return to this hotel when we stay in London again. Good size bedroom, beautiful bathroom. Only thing it was lacking was a plug socket by the mirror so I could do my hair this morning but that was it. I was a bit worried it would be noisy because we were at the front of the hotel but couldn't hear a thing! The shuttle service to and from Clapham Junction was great too!"

"We found our stay to be the best ever in London and would not hesitate in returning.
Room spacious and comfortable.Staff outstanding service including reception.Food very good well worth the money. "

"Excellent location and very helpful staff. The bar was lovely although drinks were a little on the expensive side. Fantastic view of the Thames, although quite near to the Helipad so a bit of noise from the Helicopters!"

"Definitely not a luxury hotel"

"Thank you for your review on Trip Advisor. We would like to emphasise on the point that while we welcome constructive criticism from our guests wholeheartedly, doing our best to incorporate suggestions and recommendations, we do take exception to unwarranted criticism that does complete injustice to the quality and standard of our hotel.
Even our worst critics have lauded us for our stunning design and quality, the hotel’s entrance is decorated with designed products. More often than not we see customers astounded with our lobby. Therefore it is rather harsh on your part to be so severe in your review.
We have always had excellent reviews of our staff. This is due to the fact that we have instilled the ‘customer is king’ factor in all service areas of the hotel. However, we regret if you felt unattended when you arrived. We feel it’s not fair to judge the whole establishment based on the one incident. We are a strictly non-smoking hotel although unfortunately we do have the occasional guest who may not comply with our policies.
We have made enquiries regarding the taxi in the morning and have identified that it was a car from one of our registered local mini-cab companies with whom we have agreed discounted rates. 10 Pounds for a 4 mile journey should be considered non expensive in London compared to other cab services.
We thank you for staying with us and look forward to having the opportunity to welcome you again."

"Amazing Hotel - Great restaurant! Me and my partner stayed at the Rafayel hotel this weekend October 2010. It was amazing, we had one of the amazon rooms at the end of the coridoor so it had floor length windows all round which was great. The room itself was huge and had a really big bathroom.

We ate at the Banyan on Thames restaurant on Friday night which was really good, the hotel also has a 50% off deal at the moment so it was affordable.

The hotel runs a shuttle service every half an hour to clapham common or clapham junction, but we needed to go to battersea power station and the driver gladly took us straight there.

There is a bus stop straight outside the hotel (bus 170) which goes directly to victoria.

i would definitely stay at this hotel again and recomend to a friend."

I chose the Hotel Rafayel for a base to visit a venue in Clapham.

When I phoned to book the room, the call was taken by Ike, the owner. I was impressed by his enthusiastic, friendly manner. He promised a confirmation call from one of his staff, which duly arrived. I booked a Nile room with river view. My girlfriend and I checked in at 2pm - the room was ready, as promised. Check-in was friendly, easy and efficient. My car was vaket parked in a secure underground carpark.

We were shown to our room which featured a large, very comfortable bed, plasma screen, etc; teriffic bathroom with jacuzzi and excellent shower. The river view was rather obscured, but it was there (not sure I was given the correct room as I was offered river view or jacuzzi - not both?) There was more than ample space, including a dining area…

The river view was rather obscured, but it was there (not sure I was given the correct room as I was offered river view or jacuzzi - not both?) There was more than ample space, including a dining area.

We ate a late lunch in the Banyan restaurant - very pleasant and reasonably priced.

A shuttle service was offered which took us directly to our venue in Clapham - great service.

On our return we headed for the bar. The staff were friendly, chatty and mixed a mean coctail. Ike joined us at the bar and proved to be excellent company. (Nice to meet you, Ike) it was getting quite late by this time, but no sign of clock-watching from the staff!

We retired for the night (morning, actually) and found the bed to be even more comforable than it looked. First class, great linen, etc.

A very good full english breakfast served in the room rounded off a most enjoyable stay.

Minus points? One or two, which are only to be expected with a fledgling business - I

won't dwell on them here as I'm sure they will be addressed and the owner was aware of most of the points we raised. The absence of loo paper in the ladies' was the only really disappointing area. I realise that these things happen, but if MuckDonalds can check their facilities regularly, ...

Overall, a big 'well done' and thank you to Ike and his team.

Ok, you haven't central London location, but communications are not nearly as bad as some have made out. You're not at all far from Fulham or Chelsea, there's lots happening in Battersea, you have a shuttle service available and you're certainly not paying London prices.

As a footnote, I managed to leave a shirt in the wardrobe - a legacy of too much champagne and Mojitos, I expect. The shirt arrived at my home address this morning via first class post. Thanks again. Hope to visit again before too long.

Timeout- Absolute gem ,eclectic menu that caters for wide variety of taste that cosmopolitan Londoners have developed.

Banyan has a very good taste palette. World number 1 restaurant El Bullis Chef Ferran Adria shreds the rule book of fine dining and present customers with food that often does not meet any gastronomic or culinary elucidation, in a far modest but similar way Banyan follows suit, I sensed that; it is a great feat of gastronomic expertise.

It is trendy, stylish on the river, and value oriented, they try to cook food that is filling and very tasty, it defies established culinary practices and brings real life on the table.

Their menu especially Angus steak melts in the mouth, so is Monk fish and Chips, the reason being they are able to do it perfectly by wrapping the moisture within the steak and serve fresh fish that has more of fish than batter, both are cooked with all the freshness to perfection.

I think with natural ability to eat good, I can pair flavors in food, for me it all goes together like a fine tuned orchestra or a flop. Banyan Chef definitely impressed me and has a taste palette that is both fine tuned and exquisite. Timeout two star rating for this place is travesty the least if not an oversight.

I find the streak of genius where the food served is authentic and very well thought about, well done Battersea, who knows this streak of originality in few years may lead them with better reviews and crowds, I would suggest this hidden gem should be fully exploited for its great food and very low price.

Latest 5 reviews of Banyan on Thames

An excellent South London location provided a scenic riverside view of the Thames for a cosy Saturday evening meal for two. The food was well presented, the starters were absolutely fine and as expected. Our mains left us both slightly disappointed however and we weren't sure if the food just didn't match the billing or we should have picked something else. The service was excellent & the offer from Top Table provided great value for money and so we were happy all in all. Worth trying.

Banyan on the Thames was a pleasant smallish restaurant with a relaxing view. The service was very attentive but not in your face. Salads interesting and mains beautifully presented. With the offer is well worth it.

Great venue, decor, atmosphere and service. We enjoyed the food - decent sized portions and lovely flavours. Without the 50% off it would have been very expensive for what it is. The only downside was a private party who had drinks in the bar area first and their dinner table was right next to me and partner, they were so loud that it did ruin our dinner for two a little. Overall a pleasant dinner.

SPA review- Needed a much needed break after closing a tough deal but couldn’t take an all-out vacation. Booked myself at the Rafayel for the weekend since I live a couple of miles away and take advantage of their gym and spa that sounded nice. But the whole experience was beyond my expectations. After a run and weight training at a very well-equipped gym, I took an hour long session of yoga. Extremely relaxing and highly recommended for stressed out professionals out there. Hit the Jacuzzi after that. Wonderful. Booked myself for the entire next day for different treatments, massage, mani/pedi and facials. Lovely staff, great products used, excellent service. It was absolutely heavenly. The therapists are very professional and took great care of the sensitive spots. The best part was the whole feel of being out in some exotic resort, at fantastic prices! The hotel itself is lovely, huge rooms, great showers, the comfiest of beds! You can take advantage of the sun (like I did) and lounge in their Japanese terrace garden and soak in the clean crispness of the hotel and the outside and savour the delicious decadent and colourful cupcakes I carted off from the reception. The food at their restaurant was amazing; the lovely chef whisked up a customized dietary breakkie on my request (Thanks again J!). Ended up having both lunch and dinner there. You have to try their all-health Mediterranean-type of rocket/chicken liver salad. Absolutely yum! All in all, a great exotic holiday away from London in London and great value for money! Am already booked for 2 weekends a month until Jan. Highly highly recommended to all.

Lateroom- Best hotel experience in London, ever
Once they've finished their "soft opening" period, I imagine the prices will ascend heavenwards at this riverside hotel, but for the moment, it has to be the best-value hotel experience in London and, provided the staff keep up their current standards of absolute excellence, it will remain one of the best-quality experiences. The location is, at first sight, not so ideal, being a long way from tube and train stations (10-15 minutes' walk to Clapham Junction). But they provide a free shuttle to Clapham Junction during the day. There is also a regular bus service from outside the door to Victoria Station. And it's a very pleasant 20-minute walk along the river and over Battersea Bridge to Chelsea. So the location is manageable.

My bathroom was larger than most London hotel bedrooms. And the shower provides water from six different directions at once. Through adjustable nozzles. This shower, seriously, is the perfect venue for a romantic break in itself. Just buy a bottle of champagne and you're all set. The bedroom, if you ever make it that far - and my room was one of their "Amazon" rooms, certainly not a top-of-the-range suite - has marble floors, lighting so subtle and remote-controlled I could swear it dimmed slightly when I raised a quizzical eyebrow, a fantastically comfortable bed facing a giant plasma screen TV if you're into that kind of thing. Ample space to work, do Pilates, practise swordfighting. Just a magnificent room. If they triple the price, it'll still be a reasonable deal.

Breakfast - a buffet, very fresh, with excellent cereals and coffee. Continental and full English all provided on the buffet, but eggs are cooked (in this case, perfectly poached) to order, so you don't get those weird rubber fried eggs that look like something from a children's party. Breakfast staff, again unusually for London, were gentle, welcoming and calming, and seemed to be taking the time of day into consideration, unlike in most hotels in London where you're met with pointless low-grade belligerence as you stumble half-conscious into the breakfast room.

Not a fantastic place for a family holiday seeing the sights, but great for business and an absolutely brilliant place for a romantic break. Now all I need is a girlfriend.

EXCELLENT HOTEL
this hotel was the best stay ever....i would never have thought that such a hotel could exsist in an area like clapham but then i stayed at the hotel Rafayel. Mind you though i was in the suite at this hotel....i stayed here for about 4 days...we arrived at 2:30pm and our room was not ready to compensate for the wait they gave us free complimentry drink at the bar/restaurant which i thought was sweet. when we go into the room it must have been about 3:15pm but the room (104) was breath taking. the bathroom was huge and the space....welll there was soo much space you could roll around the floor....the room was clean and smelt lovely. one thing that was missing was the dvd player that my partner had requested in advance but they were swift in getting us an xbox within the hour... The room had two tv's one large one for watching in the seating area in the room and one for when lying in bed... the tvs aren't small either.....i must say thought this hotel is really only for those that dont want to do anything but stay in the hotel room which is what me and my partner had in mind....the hotel is located near a helipad and it is very noisy in the restaurant. the noise from the helipad does not affect you in anyway when in your room....you can sleep peacefully....the food in the restaurant is ok... and they offer 50% off for all room guests who eat at there and you have to have two courses...one strange thing was the room service food.... the food taste good still but you tend to get something different each day....as in on the first day i ordered breakfast for room service and i got the full english and toast and it also comes with the continential and we got two corrosants and cornflakes and fruit and two pots of youghurt... on the next day i ordered the same breakie for room service and we got the full english, no toast, no cornflakes, and only one corrosants... so be warned you dont always get the same things.... This hotel is like a hotel in Dubai it makes u forget where u are...

Lovely intimate place on the Thames. Both service and food was great. Will go back

The booking was made at 5 pm on the day of arrival. Since there is no direct connection on our booking engine for lateroom connections, for security purposes Laterooms sends confirmations to us by fax. The reviewer/guest arrived at 7:01. In between 5 pm and 7:01, unfortunately the fax was missed, and was not received until 7:11 pm and promptly entered into our reservations system.

It was all purely an error of communication. The reviewer was then given a room which he did not like, so we straight away offered him another. The reference made to a “small piece of scrap paper” is part of our eco saving policy because we can reuse plastic cards with covers. Plastic cards with cover can be reused. Therefore room numbers are issued on a small piece of paper simply because in case a card with cover is lost we are able to use it again. Even our magnetic cards are biodegradable and have a long life.

If you print them, then 65 rooms means waste of nearly 20,000 covers a year, which absolutely goes against our eco philosophy, never mind the fact that we maintain a very good control to preserve our eco credentials.

Our slogan saves us unnecessary wastage. It would be important to note that even though it was a same-day reservation, the reviewer got rock bottom prices. And when he didn’t like the original room, we offered another immediately. He himself has rated the cleanliness and room quality of the hotel very highly.

If he found our service a little lacking, we apologize for the inconvenience caused. However, we would like to let our reviewer know that the delay in booking was only caused due to miscommunication and not through any fault of the hotel. We take every customer claim and feedback very seriously based on which we try to improve our hospitality standards to the best of our efforts.

Dear guest,

Thank you for your patronage, and stay at the Hotel Rafayel.

"While we appreciate your positive comments and on our part do our best to implement all our guests’ suggestions to further improve our services, our innovative business and management policies where intellectual honesty supersedes everything else, also demand that we correct any assumptions our guests may make that could prove misleading to the public."

With all due respect, we take exception to some of your comments where it is implied you were misled about our location and/or services offered, and accordingly have taken the liberty to respond.

If you sought us out through the net, you must have visited our website, in which we are very clear about our location and about taking great pride in being a Battersea business and why. Rather, we have gone over and beyond pretty turn of phrases and highlighted our weaknesses. Please check out what people have to say and in some instances about the location: http://www.hotelrafayel.com/whatpeoplesay.php, although we don’t think it is an issue, given that we have tried to overcome transportation impediment perceived by some and enhanced our services three-fold by offering complimentary shuttle services to both Clapham Common and Clapham Junction, which then takes you to most popular stops of the city within an average of between 10-25 minutes depending on your location of choice. Or you can take a brisk walk along the river bank and reach King’s Road within 15 minutes. We have never pretended to be a Chelsea business, but are right opposite to it. Battersea will soon host the new American Embassy premises that are due to be completed in Nine Elms Corridor.

We cannot reiterate enough how proud of where we are, but are fully aware of certain limitations people perceive that we have striven to overcome. This is the reason our website is laden with information on Battersea so as not to keep our guests misinformed by omission. Please check our site at: http://www.hotelrafayel.com/index.php. Notwithstanding this fact, our guests would appreciate that the prices we offer are incomparable to any other hotel in West End or Knightsbridge given the spaciousness of our rooms – from 220-700 sq.ft. If you had requested a smaller room (on the lower side of 220 sq.ft.), you probably paid less than £100. For deluxe luxurious rooms like ours, you would probably pay four times the price at any West End hotel.

Being rated the “most beautifully designed” hotel, or as being “among the top ten for the most beautiful views,” our guests would acknowledge and appreciate that our prices include, over and above these citations, that we take great pride in not only offering very airy rooms, but the best beds, the best televisions, the fastest internet speed, the best technology, a gym and Wellbeing spa considered to offer cutting edge treatments, with our restaurant rated so highly on Toptable.com, and hospitality gestures such as free organic iced tea and cupcakes on guest arrival, and so much more – all built into cutthroat prices that are aptly encapsulated in the phrase “affordable luxury.” We are discounting prices up to 50-60%! And offer free services to our guests to facilitate transport and commutes.

Secondly, we take exception to your comment on the noise from the heliport. Our website clearly states in various places that we are right next to the heliport on the south bank of the River Thames, with photographs of helicopters landing at the heliport. Our hotel’s design had to implement the highest acoustic installation standards demanded under the council’s stringent planning permission. The windows are tightly sealed and the room is fully insulated to keep out any noise.
Thirdly, our restaurant, Banyan on the Thames, does serve a limited menu for lunch but it is not restricted to six Indian dishes, like: Tilapia fish cakes, Cromer crab, mango and king prawn, hot smoked salmon, duck breast salad, 3 spice chicken tikka Banyan Style, free range chicken Caesar salad, classic Greek salad (all with exotic herbs and spices) tomato and mozzarella, various pasta and rice dishes, fish and chips Banyan style, tender pieces of monkfish fried in lime and coriander tempura batter, fillet of sashimi tuna, sweet chilli beef with jasmine rice, an assortment of delicious filling sandwiches, and a variety of indulgent desserts. Our dinner menu is far more elaborate affair with a wonderful variety of main courses to choose from. Therefore, to dismiss Banyan, a restaurant that has been top-diner rated on Toptable.com in a short span of 120 days since opening, an achievement not enjoyed by many, is unfair. The restaurant has 228 recommendations already on a sensitive barometer like http://www.toptable.com/en-gb/venue/?id=14170! Not many restaurants have gained such a huge following in so little time.

The purpose of this response is to gently correct the assumptions you have made and to make clear to our future guests that Hotel Rafayel has taken great pains to highlight factual accuracies which would help them take an educated decision to choose Rafayel. Your views are certainly valuable and we are grateful to the high praise you have accorded to the quality and beauty of Rafayel. Our hotel ethos is to run our business with intellectual honesty and transparency and this is the spirit in which this response has been written.

We thank you once again.

Kind regards,
The Management
